London, 12th January 2013: In a meeting held on 12th January 2013 at the Jubilee Room, YMCA Indian Student Hostel, Assam Forum of Great Britain has been formed.
In his welcome address, Dr Jitendralal Borkakoti elaborated an informal history and the Aim and Objectives of the Assam Forum of Great Britain. A Constitution was adopted and the Executive Committee roles were proposed with Jitendralal Borkakoti as Chairman and Chief Convenor, Jayanta B Sarma as Vice-Chairman, Kavita Das as Treasurer, Sanjay Sikdar as Secretary, and both Neera Borkakoti and Nina Goswami as Press Officers. The rest of the founding members of the Forum were allocated responsibility to track specific areas/problems of Assam and update regularly on the website.
Aims & Objectives
Assam Forum of Great Britain (AFGB) is a voluntary society consisting of a voluntary group of people who are interested in the economic and social issues of Assam.
Aims
- To discuss the economic, social, political and cultural issues of Assam
- To submit suggested solutions to the Government of Assam and to the Government of India
- To raise awareness among the Assamese community and the wider population of the UK of the ongoing concerns in Assam
Objectives
- To hold an annual conference on the burning issues of Assam, and also to organise seminars on urgent issues
- To invite expert opinions on specific topics of Assam
- To facilitate the global Assamese diaspora to have a united voice on specific issues.
